Thermocouple

Thermocouple are used to control the flow a gas to and appliance. The function is as follows: As long as the pilot light is burning the thermocouple produces a small electrical current that holds the gas flow open. Should the pilot go out the current stops and the gas flow is stopped. If your pilot light will not stay lit your thermocouple needs to be be replaced.

Trouble Shooting

Thermocouple Tester

Place thermocouple in the tester and hold down the button on the tester then hold a match or lighter on the end of thermocouple.  Let go of the button and the button should stay in the down position for 30 to 60 seconds. If the button pops up as soon as you remove the button the thermocouple will need to be replaced.
